A security system uses wireless access control readers that determine locations of beacon devices relative to thresholds of access points, a verification system for validating user information for users, and beacon devices that monitor for an activation input from their users and that signal the wireless access control readers when the activation input is received. The access point is then controlled based on the user information and the receipt of the activation input by the beacon devices. This addresses the problem of how the system infers intent at an access point. The security system no longer has to infer intent from possibly poor information concerning the location and movement of the users. Instead, the security system can simply determine gross proximity to the access point and then wait for the activation input.

A method of controlling access to a location secured by a lock mechanism. An access control management system (ACMS) administrates electronic keys for multiple locations and users carrying mobile units. A lock mechanism controls the lock mechanism at the location. Each of data records associated with lock control units includes key generation data for generating an electronic key for a corresponding lock control unit. A generated key is communicated from the ACMS to the user mobile unit. The key indicates an access right to the location and has an associated lock control unit identifier. The key is communicated from the user mobile unit to the lock control unit at the location, which authenticates the key and, subject to successful authentication of the key, operates the lock mechanism. The key includes a data item cryptographically protected between the ACMS and the lock control unit using a cryptographic key unknown to the user mobile unit.

In a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) service, activation of a wearable call device (10) by a PERS client causes a speakerphone console (12) to connect with a PERS call center (18) to enable the PERS client to converse with a call center operator while a PERS client profile is retrieved from a PERS database (52) and displayed on a display component (44) at the PERS call center. From the profile, values of a set of features are generated for the PERS client. An emergency dispatch risk prediction or other risk prediction is computed over a future time horizon for the PERS client based on the generated values of the set of features, and is displayed on the display component. The risk prediction may be wirelessly sent to a mobile device (80) for display on the mobile device.
