In an approach to automated social distancing recommendations, one or more computer processors monitor first data associated with a utilization of a physical space. One or more computer processors determine the first data associated with the utilization of the physical space exceeds a space utilization threshold. Based on the first data associated with the utilization of the physical space exceeding the space utilization threshold, one or more computer processors generate second data associated with the physical space. One or more computer processors send a notification, where the notification includes the generated second data associated with the physical space.

The techniques disclosed herein provide controlled user interface transitions for private breakout communication sessions. A system provides a Together Mode user interface that gives participants of a communication session a feeling that they are in the same room. When a person joins a communication session, a system uses a seating policy to determine a location of that user. That user is placed near or next to a select user. A policy is applied when users meet one or more conditions. If a number of people join the communication session, each person is ranked according to an organizational chart and each person is positioned and ordered relative to the select user according to each person's rank. The system configures the updated user interface arrangement to maintain the position of the select group of the participants.

In a running distributed data storage system that actively processes I/Os, metadata nodes are commissioned and decommissioned without taking down the storage system and without introducing interruptions to metadata or payload data I/O. The inflow of reads and writes continues without interruption even while new metadata nodes are in the process of being added and/or removed and the strong consistency of the system is guaranteed. Commissioning and decommissioning nodes within the running system enables streamlined replacement of permanently failed nodes and advantageously enables the system to adapt elastically to workload changes. An illustrative distributed barrier logic (the “view change barrier”) controls a multi-state process that controls a coordinated step-wise progression of the metadata nodes from an old view to a new normal. Rules for I/O handling govern each state until the state machine loop has been traversed and the system reaches its new normal.
