A method and system utilizes a device in a vehicle to periodically determine a location of the vehicle and store, only locally at the device, the location data. The device first detects the vehicle being turned on and identifies the vehicle. After identifying the vehicle the device determines the present location of the vehicle and transmits the present location to a backend server. The server determines the applicable geofence definition including the location and transmits the geofence definition back to the device, whereupon the device commences periodic location fixes, storing each location locally at the device. While performing the location fixes, the device also monitors the present location relative to the geofence definition. If the vehicle is approaching a border or edge of a geofenced region, the device requests a new geofence definition from the server. When the vehicle is shut off, the device transmits the distance driven in each geofenced region to the server. Additionally, the device selects a subset of location fixes to create an auditable record of where the vehicle has travelled, and transmits the record to the server, and then deletes all locally stored location information.

A method includes performing, by a terminal with an access card, a first relay attack check for the access card in accordance with a local value associated with the terminal and a local value associated with the access card; determining, by the terminal, that the access card has passed the first relay attack check, and based thereon, performing, by the terminal with the access card, an authentication check of the access card in accordance with the local value associated with the terminal, the local value associated with the access card, and a local challenge value associated with the terminal; and determining, by the terminal, that the access card has passed the first relay attack check and the authentication check, and based thereon, validating, by the terminal, the access card.

An electronic patient monitoring system and method of operation that includes one or more generally non-metal, tamper-resistant patient identification and monitoring devices, an observer transmitter/receiver device configured to receive and detect one or more beacon signals that exceed a predetermined threshold from at least one of the not easily removable patient identification and monitoring devices, set a time to hold open a window for a response on the transmitter/receiver device, and send a request for information to the observer with the transmitter/receiver device, and a central computer system. Each of the transmitter/receiver device and the central computer system, including, at least, a computer processor, communications components and system software to communicate with the observer transmitter/receiver device at specified/predetermined time intervals to receive observer- and patient-specific information.

Example methods and arrangements for sensors are disclosed herein. At least one storage device or storage disk includes instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor of a mobile electronic device to at least access notification data indicative of an event at a security perimeter of a building, the notification data corresponding to a change in a status of one or more sensors at the security perimeter; present the notification data to a user of the mobile electronic device, the notification data including image data associated with the event; generate a message based on a user input at the mobile electronic device in response to the notification data; and output the message to cause a responsive action.
