An antenna device includes a housing defining an interior cavity, and an RF antenna situated within the housing. The RF antenna receives high definition television signals broadcast over the air. An MHL connector is mounted on the housing. An external audio or video streaming signal device is coupleable to the MHL connector. An MHL to HDMI converter circuit situated within the interior cavity of the housing receives signals from the external audio or video streaming signal device and processes these signals into an HDMI signal format. The HDMI signals are provided on an HDMI output connector mounted on the housing. RF signals from the RF antenna are provided to an RF coaxial cable connector also mounted on the housing.

An analog-to-digital converter has a sampler to hold a sampled signal, an input signal predictor to generate a prediction signal at predetermined timing before a signal level of a ramp signal that monotonically increases or monotonically decreases with time crosses a signal level of the sampled signal, a comparator to compare signal levels of the ramp signal and the sampled signal to output a comparison signal showing whether the signal level of the ramp signal is larger than the signal lever of the sampled signal, a first counter to perform a count operation in synchronism with a first clock signal within a period from start of a comparison operation by the comparator to generation of the prediction signal, and a second counter to perform a count operation in synchronism with a second clock signal.

A binary arithmetic coding scheme is extended by a functionality to encode and decode non-negative integer values with particular low computational complexity.

A host device, which may include a DVR, selects to record content on the host device DVR or in a network attached storage (NAS) unit. The recorded content remains bound to the host device from a DRM perspective when it is recorded on the host DVR and on the remotely located NAS. A client device can obtain access to content recorded on the NAS by negotiating DRM rights with the host device instead of the NAS. When access rights are approved, the host device provides access information to the client device so that the content is streamed directly to the client device from the NAS.

A computer implemented method of downloading one or more chunks of a selected media file from a server to a computing device is provided. A client application resides on the computing device and is configured to obtain a metadata file describing how the selected media file may be chunked, to determine, based on the metadata file, the portion of the selected media file to download, and to download the portion. The client application prepares a local media file corresponding to one or more chunks of the downloaded portion of the selected media file, and facilitates playback of the local media file on the computing device. The time interval of the chunk may be selected based on a suitable chunk time interval for the computing device.
