Technical Abstract

A contents reproduction apparatus (e.g. an AV receiver) is connectable to various sources (e.g. audio/video devices) having audio/video contents which are related to predetermined activities (e.g. Listen, Watch, Play) and predetermined sound field options (e.g. Music, Movie, Entertainment) via a sound field table describing a plurality of sound field modes. The contents reproduction apparatus allows the user to arbitrarily select the source, the activity, and the sound field option, thus determining a desired sound field mode via the sound field table. The desired sound field mode is adopted in the signal processing performed on the output signals (e.g. audio signals) of the selected source. Thus, the user is able to select the optimum sound field mode from among various sound field modes with a simple operation without needing to carry out troublesome and complicated operations.

Legal claims defining the scope of protection. Each claim is shown in both the original legal language and a plain English translation.

Claim 1

Original Legal Text

1. A content reproduction apparatus comprising: an activity selecting part which selects a desired activity from among a plurality of activities including a plurality of sources; a source selecting part which selects a desired source for the activity selected by the activity selecting part; a sound-field category selecting part which selects a desired sound-field category from among a plurality of sound-field categories including a plurality of sound-field modes; a sound-field determining part which determines a desired sound-field mode for the desired activity and the desired sound-field category with reference to a table describing the plurality of sound-field modes combining the plurality of activities and the plurality of sound-field categories; a content selecting part which selects a desired content from among a plurality of contents in response to the desired source; and a signal processing part which performs signal processing on the desired content in the desired sound-field mode.

Plain English Translation

A content reproduction apparatus, such as an AV receiver, allows users to select a desired audio or video experience. The apparatus includes an activity selector where users choose a general activity like "Listen," "Watch," or "Play," representing different content sources. A source selector allows the user to pick a specific source associated with the chosen activity. A sound-field category selector allows the user to choose a category, such as "Music," "Movie," or "Entertainment," containing different sound field modes. A sound-field determining component uses a table to map the selected activity and sound-field category to a specific sound-field mode. Finally, a signal processing component applies the determined sound-field mode to the audio/video content from the selected source, optimizing the sound for the chosen activity and category. A content selector allows the user to select a specific content for the chosen source.

Claim 2

Original Legal Text

2. The content reproduction apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the activity selecting part allows a user to select the desired activity in association with an activity select menu, while the sound-field category selecting part allows the user to select the desired sound-field category in association with a sound-field category menu.

Plain English Translation

Building upon the content reproduction apparatus described previously, the activity selector presents an activity selection menu to the user, allowing them to easily choose between activities like "Listen", "Watch", or "Play". Similarly, the sound-field category selector provides a sound-field category menu for selecting categories such as "Music", "Movie", or "Entertainment". These menus simplify the selection process, allowing users to quickly navigate and choose their desired activity and corresponding sound-field category for an optimal audio/video experience. This simplifies the user interface.

Claim 3

Original Legal Text

3. The content reproduction apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of activities represents Listen, Watch, and Play, while the plurality of sound-field categories represents Music, Movie, and Entertainment.

Plain English Translation

In the content reproduction apparatus detailed previously, the activities represented in the activity selection menu are specifically "Listen," "Watch," and "Play," corresponding to different types of content consumption. The sound-field categories available in the sound-field category menu are "Music," "Movie," and "Entertainment." This pre-defined set of activities and sound-field categories provides a structured way for users to select their desired audio/video experience and ensures compatibility with various content types and sound preferences.
