Disclosed is a technique for allowing proper classification information to be provided to an edited image. When it is determined that the editing is cropping, a system controller cuts a decompressed image down to a desired size using an image processor and performs face detection on a crop image. The system controller generates a header for image data of an edited image. When the setting of automatically providing classification information is “ON”, classification information is automatically provided based on the detected face information.

An image processing apparatus comprising: an editing unit configured to execute a trimming edit on an image recorded in a storage medium, wherein information indicating a position of a face detected in the image and classification information of the face are associated with the image on which the trimming edit has not been executed yet; and a control unit configured to perform control in a manner such that, in a case where the face does not exist in the image on which the trimming edit has been executed, the classification information to be added in a case where at least one face exists in the image is invalidated, and in a case where the face exists in the image on which the trimming edit has been executed, the information indicating the position of the face is changed and the classification information is associated with the image.
An image processing system edits images by cropping them. Original images store face location data and face classification (e.g., name). When an image is cropped, the system checks if the face is still present. If the face is gone in the cropped image, the face classification is invalidated. If the face remains, the face location data is updated to reflect the new position within the cropped image, and the face classification remains associated with the image. This allows face information to persist correctly across editing operations.
2. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the image is recorded while information indicating a number of people existing in the image is further associated with the image, and wherein the control unit is configured to update the information indicating the number of people to be associated with the image on which the trimming edit has been executed.
The image processing system described above also tracks the number of people in an image. The original image stores a count of detected faces. When a cropped image is generated, the system updates this people count to reflect the number of faces present in the cropped portion. For example, if an original image had three faces and the crop only contains one, the system updates the associated metadata to reflect only one person.
3. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising: an image capturing unit configured to capture an image; and a recording unit configured to record the image in the storage medium.
The image processing system described above includes a camera module that captures new images. These captured images are then stored into the storage medium (e.g., memory card or internal storage). The captured image can later be trimmed by the image editing functionality.
4. The image processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the image is recorded while information indicating a focus position in the image is further associated with the image, and wherein the control unit is configured to update the information indicating the focus position to be associated with the image on which the trimming edit has been executed.
The image processing system described above also tracks the focus position within an image. Original images store focus point data. When cropping occurs, the system updates the focus position metadata to correspond to its new location within the trimmed image. This ensures the focus metadata accurately reflects the edited image.
5. A method for controlling an image processing apparatus, the method comprising: executing a trimming edit on an image recorded in a storage medium, wherein information indicating a position of a face detected in the image and classification information of the face are associated with the image on which the trimming edit has not been executed yet; and performing control in a manner such that, in a case where the face does not exist in the image on which the trimming edit has been executed, the classification information to be added in a case where at least one face exists in the image is invalidated, and in a case where the face exists in the image on which the trimming edit has been executed, the information indicating the position of the face is changed and the classification information is associated with the image.
An image processing method crops images. Original images store face location data and face classification (e.g., name). When an image is cropped, the method checks if a face still exists. If the face is absent in the cropped image, the face classification is removed. If the face exists, the face location is updated to its new coordinates within the cropped image, and the face classification is associated with the image. This ensures accurate face information after cropping.
6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the image is recorded while information indicating a number of people existing in the image is further associated with the image, and wherein, by the performing control, the information indicating the number of people to be associated with the image on which the trimming edit has been executed is updated.
The image processing method described above also tracks the number of people in an image. The original image stores a count of detected faces. The method updates this people count when a cropped image is made to reflect the number of faces now present in the cropped image.
7. The method according to claim 5 , further comprising: capturing an image; and recording the image in the storage medium.
The image processing method described above includes capturing an image and storing that image in the storage medium (e.g., memory card). This captured image can then be subjected to the cropping method.
8. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the image is recorded while information indicating a focus position in the image is further associated with the image, and wherein, by the performing control, the information indicating the focus position to be associated with the image on which the trimming edit has been executed is updated.
The image processing method described above also tracks the focus position within an image. Original images store focus point data. This method updates the focus position metadata to its new location after cropping occurs.
