Technical Abstract

A banking system controlled responsive to data bearing records includes a card reader that can read identifying data from user cards. The system can authorize operation of an automated banking machine responsive to the read data. The system can provide an electronic transaction receipt to the machine user. A bank computer is operable to submit the receipt to a system address on record with the bank. The address can correspond to an e-mail address, phone number, or other address associated with an account involved in the transaction. The receipt can also include an image associated with the transaction. The system cal also operate to image a check deposited at the machine, and then electronically send the image to the check maker, the payee, and/or a clearinghouse.

Claim 1

Original Legal Text

1. A non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions with instructions encoded thereon for execution by a processor and when executed operable to: obtain data representative of a user requesting to perform a financial transaction at an automated banking machine from a transaction host; determine a financial account associated with the user for performing the financial transaction; perform the financial transaction via the transaction host; communicate with a remotely located server system that is on a communication path that is independent of a communication path with the transaction host and wherein the server has access to a data store that associates an account and a customer network address for customers of a financial institution who are to receive electronic records of transactions involving their accounts, wherein the customer network address is usable to sending to the user an electronic record of the financial transaction; receive from the remotely located server system a response message that indicates the user is to receive from the server an electronic record of the financial transaction; and send a message that comprises transaction receipt data to the remote server system that causes the remote server to send an electronic receipt to an electronic address associated with the user responsive to the response message indicating that the user is to receive an electronic record of the financial transaction; wherein the receipt comprises data representative of the financial transaction; wherein the data representative of the financial transaction comprises a link to an image related to the transaction; and wherein the link to the image is to an image of the user.

Plain English Translation

A computer-readable medium stores instructions for an automated banking machine (ABM). When executed, these instructions obtain user data for a financial transaction from a transaction host, determine the user's financial account, and perform the transaction. Critically, the system communicates with a separate, remote server that maintains a database linking accounts to customer contact information (like email or phone). The ABM receives confirmation from this server that the user wants an electronic receipt, and then sends the transaction details to the remote server. This prompts the remote server to send an electronic receipt with a link to an image of the user to the user's registered contact information.

Claim 2

Original Legal Text

2. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , the instructions further operable to: send a first message to a remote server with data representative of the user; and receive a response from the remote server, the response comprising data indicating the user desires the electronic receipt; wherein the data representative of the financial transaction is sent to the remote host to cause the electronic receipt to be sent to the electronic address associated with the user.

Plain English Translation

The computer-readable medium from the previous description further includes instructions to send user data to a remote server and receive a response confirming the user's preference for an electronic receipt. This confirmation then triggers the sending of transaction data to the remote server so it can send an electronic receipt to the user's registered address, including a link to an image of the user related to the transaction, as described in the previous description.

Claim 3

Original Legal Text

3. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , the instructions further operable to receive from a user interface associated with the automated banking machine data representative of the electronic address; wherein the wherein the data representative of the financial transaction and the electronic address are sent to a remote host to cause the electronic receipt to be sent to the electronic address associated with the user.

Plain English Translation

The computer-readable medium from the first description also involves obtaining the user's contact information (like email or phone number) directly from the ABM's user interface. The ABM then sends both the transaction data and this user-provided contact information to a remote server. This prompts the remote server to send an electronic receipt to the user-specified address, including a link to an image of the user related to the transaction, as described in the first description.

Claim 4

Original Legal Text

4. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , the instructions are further operable to obtain data representative of an image for an item deposited at the automated banking machine; wherein the electronic receipt further comprises data representative of the image for the item deposited at the automated banking machine.

Plain English Translation

The computer-readable medium from the first description further includes instructions to capture an image of a deposited item (e.g., a check) at the ABM. This image data is then included in the electronic receipt sent to the user. The receipt includes a link to an image of the user related to the transaction, as described in the first description, along with the deposited item image.

Claim 5

Original Legal Text

5. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further operable to: operate a user interface to request the user input data indicating whether the user desires an electronic receipt; and operate a user interface to request a user input a telephone number responsive to receiving user input data indicating the user desires an electronic receipt.

Plain English Translation

The computer-readable medium described in the first description includes instructions to display a user interface on the ABM asking if the user wants an electronic receipt. If the user selects "yes," the ABM prompts the user to enter their telephone number for receipt delivery. The receipt includes a link to an image of the user related to the transaction, as described in the first description.

Claim 8

Original Legal Text

8. A non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions with instructions encoded thereon for execution by a processor and when executed operable to: obtain data representative of a user requesting to perform a financial transaction at an automated banking machine; obtain card data for the user; determine a financial account associated with the user for performing the financial transaction from a transaction host; perform the financial transaction via the transaction host; communicate with a remotely located server system that in on a communication path that is independent of a communication path with the transaction host and wherein the server has access to a data store that associates an account and a customer network address for customers of a financial institution who are to receive electronic records of transactions involving their accounts, wherein the customer network address is usable to sending to the user an electronic record of the financial transaction; receive from the remotely located server system a response message that indicates the user is to receive from the server an electronic record of the financial transaction; and send a message to the remote server system that comprises transaction receipt data that causes the remote server to send an electronic receipt to an electronic address associated with the user responsive to the response message indicating that the user is to receive an electronic record of the financial transaction; wherein the receipt comprises data representative of the financial transaction; wherein the data representative of the financial transaction comprises a link to an image related to the transaction; and wherein the link to the image is to an image of the card.

Plain English Translation

A computer-readable medium stores instructions for an automated banking machine (ABM). When executed, these instructions obtain user and card data for a financial transaction, determine the user's financial account through a transaction host, and perform the transaction. Critically, the system communicates with a separate, remote server that maintains a database linking accounts to customer contact information (like email or phone). The ABM receives confirmation from this server that the user wants an electronic receipt, and then sends the transaction details to the remote server. This prompts the remote server to send an electronic receipt containing a link to an image of the user's card to the user's registered contact information.

Claim 9

Original Legal Text

9. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 8 , the instructions further operable to: send a first message to a remote server with data representative of the user; and receive a response from the remote server, the response comprising data indicating the user desires the electronic receipt; wherein the data representative of the financial transaction is sent to the remote host to cause the electronic receipt to be sent to the electronic address associated with the user.

This prompts the remote server to send an electronic receipt containing a link to either an audio file or a video file related to the transaction to the user's registered contact information.
