A communication method comprising: determining a physical location in which a network service of a wireless device may be disabled when the wireless device is outside of a predetermined zone, the physical location defined in a first database by a plurality of GPS position entries that define an area, the first database maintained on a wireless communication network; querying by a message service center of the wireless communication network whether the wireless device is within the physical location defined in the first database; disabling by the message service center of the network service when the wireless device is within the physical location defined in the first database; determining a physical location in which a communication function of the wireless device may be disabled when the wireless device is within the predetermined zone, the physical location defined in a second database by a plurality of GPS position entries that define an area, the second database maintained on the wireless device; determining on the wireless device whether the wireless device is within the physical location defined in the second database; and disabling by the wireless device of the communication function of the wireless device when the wireless device is within the physical location defined in the second database; wherein the second database of physical locations in which the communication function of the wireless device is to be disabled contains only physical locations within a predetermined radius of operation of the wireless device, the predetermined radius being centered on a single fixed geographic location; and wherein the predetermined zone corresponds to the predetermined radius of operation of the wireless device.
