Claim 1: . A new and distinct variety ofplant named ‘SVAZ0009’, substantially as illustrated and described herein.
Complete technical specification and implementation details from the patent document.
Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed:
Varietal denomination: ‘SVAZ0009’.
The present invention comprises a new, botanically known as, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘SVAZ0009’.
‘SVAZ0009’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has pure white flowers with pale green-yellow eyes, continuous and an abundant flowering response, medium green foliage, a vigorous densely spreading growth habit with excellent branching and heat tolerance.
‘SVAZ0009’ originates from a hybridization in a field saran structure in August 2019 in Gilroy, California. The female parent was identified as ‘White Touch’, an unpatented commercially available variety having white flowers and a more open spreading plant habit. The male parent of ‘SVAZ0009’ is identified as ‘501-5’ an unpatented, proprietary breeding line, having white flowers and a more compact growth habit.
The resulting seeds were sown in March 2020 and ‘SVAZ0009’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in August 2020 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, California.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘SVAZ0009’ was accomplished when vegetative stem cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in November 2020 in a controlled environment in Gilroy, California.
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in November 2020 in Gilroy, California, and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘SVAZ0009’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘SVAZ0009’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity and day length.
A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar has not yet been applied for. ‘SVAZ0009’ has not been made publicly available prior to the effective filing date of this application, notwithstanding any disclosure that may have been made less than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application by the inventor or another who obtained ‘SVAZ0009’ directly from the inventor.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes thisas a new and distinct variety.
The aforementioned photographs were taken September 2025 in Gilroy, California. The following botanical description was prepared using the same plants as depicted in the photographs. The plants were growing in an outdoor field. They were about 6 months in age.
